Twelve years ago, coding was specialist knowledge you paid a private teacher to learn. Today the basics are everywhere, and AI fills in the syntax in seconds. The world moved. So we moved with it: coding rides along free with every Kidocode package, and we are opening a free public tier of the platform so anyone, member or not, can get going.
Large language models do what you can articulate, cleanly. If a kid cannot describe a problem in patterns the AI can use, the output will be wrong, sometimes impossible. Computational thinking is the literacy of talking to an AI agent. Without it, the AI is a slot machine. With it, the AI is a team.
Decompose a problem. Spot the structure. Abstract the shape. Compose a step-by-step solution. Those four moves are how a kid solves a maths problem, writes an essay, fixes a broken lamp, plans a holiday, or directs an AI. It does not matter what your kid ends up doing. They will do it better than the kid who did not learn this.
AI-savvy makes a kid AI-proof: fluent with the tools, not afraid of them. Computational thinking is the bigger gift. It is the cognitive habit that makes them irreplaceable - the kind of human that any economy, any era, any company, will keep.
Most kids will not be programmers. AI already writes most of the code professional programmers ship. We teach coding because it is the most direct, most hands-on, most transferable way to learn computational thinking. Coding is the medium. Computational thinking is the message.

Yes, but differently. The point is not typing syntax. The point is being able to think in patterns an AI can use, to express ideas cleanly enough that the AI returns something correct and useful. Without that, AI output is wrong or impossible. Coding is the cleanest, most hands-on way to learn this.
The ability to decompose a problem, recognise patterns, abstract them, and design a step-by-step solution that a person or a machine can execute. It transfers to maths, science, business, design, writing, sport, and anything else a kid will end up doing.
